Nose and Profile Correction
Plastic surgical correction of the nose and profile are extremely demanding, asking for extensive experience and artistic skill. Through invisible incisions inside the nose and the mouth in case of a chin correction the nasal structures are changed in a 3-dimensional way to achieve the desired form. Frequently the aesthetic correction is combined with an improvement of function, i.e. straightening of a deviated nasal septum. The costs of the functional correction is remunerated by health insurance.
Highly esteemed by my patients are computer analysis and simulation of the expected new nasal shape or profile during the first consultation. A special soft ware program allows for trying out various new shapes to decide on the most suitable one and get acquainted with the new “face”. These simulations are to be considered aims to strive for during the operation, however no warranty can be given honestly.
Plastic surgery on the nose or profile is normally performed under general anaesthesia with one night in the hospital for safety reasons. Minor corrections may be done under local anaesthesia and intravenous sedation as an outpatient treatment. As a rule I don`t plug the nose postoperatively for better patient comfort. The patients experience amazingly little pain. The sutures inside the nose dissolve without pulling. A small splint protects the operated nose for 7-10 days. Normally the swelling and bruising of the eyelids will vanish during this period of time.
The swelling of the operated nose needs some weeks to subside, is noticed only by close friends or family members, so that normal social activities including sports may be taken up after 2 weeks. In rare instances a minor secondary correction (free of charge) will be necessary as a consequence of unexpected disturbances in the healing process.
